Outside Things To Do With Kids

Žofín Island

Families with toddlers and preschoolers will love the vintage steamer train attraction, funky design playground and Žofín Garden restaurant with play area. Older kids will enjoy a family paddle or row boat adventure along the Vltava as their parents revel in the riverside views. Kmotra Pizzeria—with non-smoking section and kid’s corner—is a great budget lunch option that’s just a short walk away.

To get to Žofín Island take trams 6, 9, 17, 18, or 22 to Národní divadlo.

Explore the grounds of the sprawling park, climb up the mini-Eiffel tower, or get lost in mirror maze. Meander to Prague Castle from Petřín, stopping to catch your breath—and a quick beer (parents!)—at Strahov Monastery Brewery.

Inside Activities For Children

Karel Zeman Museum of Special Effects

Forget about IMAX and head to this museum celebrating Czech director of fantasy films and master of stop-animation, Karel Zeman, a major influence on the likes of Spielberg, Lucas and Burton. Offering interactive displays that highlight special film techniques and clips from Zeman’s movies, everyone from tots to teens will get a kick out of operating a film camera, riding a flying machine, walking around the moon like Baron Munchausen or manning the controls of the submarine from “The Fabulous World of Jules Verne.”

Galerie GUD Art Gallery for Children

This tiny gem in the Old Town is an ideal activity for a range of ages (2-13) and promises a variety of hands-on, tactile fun with interactive exhibits—think shape sorting and magnet play—and an assortment of materials for cutting, pasting, collaging and gluing one’s very own art exhibits. Maybe the one time it’s actually okay to color on the walls?
