Trastevere, across the Tiber River, is one of Rome’s most charming and authentic neighborhoods. Its narrow, cobbled streets, ivy-covered buildings, and bustling piazzas give it a timeless, almost village-like atmosphere in the heart of the city.
Food is at the heart of Trastevere. From family-run trattorias serving classic Roman pasta to artisanal gelaterias, cozy wine bars, and street-side delicacies, every corner offers a taste of local life. You’ll find recipes handed down through generations alongside modern twists that make the neighborhood a true culinary destination.

Delicious and Fun! This was an excellent activity for our last day in Rome and the last day of our honeymoon! Though we wish we did it at the beginning of our time here so we could go back to so many of the stops! Every single stop had delicious food with generous portions and many had wine or beer as well! Miri was a fantastic tour guide- kind, fun, enthusiastic and knowledgeable! We would definitely recommend and wish we could do the whole tour again!

We had an absolutely amazing time on our food tour with Flavia! She was a fantastic guide who truly knows the heartbeat of Rome's food scene.
Flavia took us to a wonderful variety of spots that we never would have found on our own. Her recommendations were spot-on throughout the tour. The highlight was definitely the pasta and pizza stop she chose.
The food was authentic and delicious. Plus, the wine pours were very generous, which made the experience even better!
If you are looking for a guide who is knowledgeable, fun, and ensures you eat and drink well, definitely ask for Flavia. Highly recommended!

What a fantastic way to enjoy and learn about Roman food and visit a very cool neighborhood - Trastevere. It was a great experience from start to finish thanks to our leader Miri, who was fantastic. Over the four hours we walked, ate, and quickly made new friends on our group ( there were 11 of us; no group is more than 12.) Two thumbs up for Eating Europe’s Twilight Trastevere food tour. I highly recommend!

Come hungry for one of the best food tours in Rome. I had the best time on this food and walking tour! The guide, Jean Luca, was so much fun, and the group we had included families, couples, and solos, so by the end of the tour we felt like family. We laughed and learned and ate so much food that by the end we were completely full. Definitely come hungry!!

Trastevere is a MUST! Our experience with our tour guide Cillian Murphy, I mean Lucca Murphy, was fantastic! He was warm, funny, and engaging with all the guests in our group. He explained the history of each place we visited and shared personal stories that filled any “lulls” while waiting for food haha! The tour was about 4 hours long (which I didn’t realize or remember after booking lol) but it felt like the right amount of time. Our group was about 11 people in total.
They brought out a tiramisu with a candle to celebrate our honeymoon as well, so sweet! Come with an empty stomach because you WILL be full by the end! I highly recommend doing this tour (and it’s worth the price) because the backstory gives the food much more significance. It’s been fun to pass along the stories now that we are home. AND you beat the lines/skip making reservations to try some of the best eats in town (which you may have never known about)! I miss the Suppli and biscotti already and my husband is still dreaming of the porchetta!! Trastevere is just as magical as Rick Steve’s said.

Luca Murphy was absolutely incredible! He is so funny and blew me away with his knowledge about all the locations we visited. Each stop we made was a memorable experience - from the fried artichoke, to prosecco on a hilltop, to the best gelato I've ever had. Luca gave me a new perspective to a city that feels hard to navigate when you don't know where to look. I can't thank him enough!

We enjoy local food tours and found this tour with Walter (from Australia) to be interesting and very informative. Walter is also a professional chef so not only did he provide interesting details of the historic areas as we walked but also gave a lot of great insight of the food and cooking techniques. Would we tour again with Walter, YES!, without any hesitation. You definitely should book a tour with him because he is so good!

A Must-Do Food Tour in Trastevere I recently joined the Rome Twilight Trastevere Food Tour by Eating Europe and it was honestly one of the highlights of my trip. Walking through Trastevere in the evening was beautiful, and the food stops felt well chosen rather than touristy. We tried a great mix of classic Roman dishes, from pasta and pizza to desserts and wine, all while learning small details about the neighborhood and local food traditions.
The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and made everyone feel comfortable asking questions. Portions were generous, and I left full and happy. What I liked most was the relaxed pace and the chance to experience places I probably wouldn’t have found on my own.
If you want good food, a fun atmosphere, and a real taste of Rome at night, this tour is absolutely worth it.

Amazing tour! Valentina was so knowledgeable and engaging. We saw so many amazing places and had authentic Italian food!! Between the wines and the different dishes this is a must do in Rome! Highly recommend
Our Rome food tours are led by passionate locals who truly know the city. Cooks, sommeliers, baristas, storytellers, and culinary historians, they go far beyond the postcard sights to show you where Romans actually eat. More than guides, they’re generous hosts who share Rome through its food, turning each tour into a window onto daily Roman life, filled with stories, flavors, and moments that stay with you long after the last bite.

Are tourists welcome in Rome?
Yes, absolutely. There’s an Italian tradition, the passeggiata—the gentle evening stroll to see and be seen. It’s about enjoying the city’s beauty at a relaxed pace, and it’s a feeling we believe every visitor should experience in Rome.
You’ll find the spirit of the passeggiata from locals when you connect with the city respectfully. It’s found when you support the family-run trattorias in Trastevere, help keep the ancient fountains pristine, and learn to navigate the beautiful, organised chaos of daily life. This is the authentic Rome experience.
It’s this connection we create on our Eating Europe tours. We step away from the crowds and take you to the places locals truly love, introducing you to the people behind the food and the stories that make this city one of a kind.
Tour Experience & Expectations
Will the guide speak my language?
Our guides are all fluent in English, and of course speak Italian as well. For requests for tours in other languages, please contact us.
Can I take photos during the tour?
Yes! You are welcome to take photos and videos of the food and scenery throughout your tour. If you would explicitly like to get photos of fellow guests or your guide, we kindly ask that you get their permission first.
Do I need to tip the guide?
Tips for our lovely guides are not required, but they are appreciated!
Will we visit the same places as other tours?
No. While some tours may have one or two stops which other groups visit (can’t help it if they’re popular!), Eating Europe are proud that the majority of stops on every Rome tour are restaurants and vendors who work exclusively with us, like Da Enzo al 29.
Do you offer private or custom tours?
We do! Please see the “Book a Private Tour” option or contact us, and we can arrange a private or custom Rome tour to suit your specific needs.
