What Makes Berlin's City Center Special
Berlin’s center — stretching from Mitte to the edges of Alexanderplatz and Potsdamer Platz — is a city still writing its own story. Where the Wall once divided, a restless, creative capital has emerged, its wide boulevards and monumental squares sitting alongside independent cafés, hidden courtyards, and a food scene shaped by decades of reinvention. History is everywhere here — in the Brandenburg Gate, Museum Island, the rebuilt synagogue — but Berlin never dwells on it. It keeps moving forward.
The food reflects that spirit. Turkish döner stands that rival anything in Istanbul, Vietnamese kitchens born from Cold War-era migration, modern German restaurants reimagining schnitzel and sauerbraten, and bakeries selling perfect pretzels and Berliner Pfannkuchen all share the same streets. Markthalle Neun and other neighbourhood markets celebrate this diversity with street food sessions that draw the whole city. And then there’s the café culture — long, slow breakfasts with strong coffee and thick slices of Käsekuchen that stretch well past noon, because Berlin has never believed in rushing anything. The center doesn’t try to impress — it just feeds everyone, from everywhere, without pretense.

Lily was a great guide. The shawarma was the best stop for some, others loved the Vietnamese tacos. Great commentary along the route, very informative. Highly recommend. Nice walks and snack stops.

We had such an amazing time on our Berlin Food Tour! Our guide, Jed, was absolutely fantastic — knowledgeable, engaging, and full of personality. He didn’t just take us to incredible spots for authentic and unique food; he tied each stop to Berlin’s rich and complex history, which made the experience so much more meaningful.
From traditional German bites (with a street food flair) to hidden local favorites, every stop offered something delicious and unexpected. We loved learning how food, culture, and history intertwine in Berlin — and Jed’s storytelling really brought it all to life.
If you’re visiting Berlin and want to experience the city through its flavors and past, this tour is a must-do. Come hungry and ready to be amazed!

Our guide Jed led us on an exceptional history and food tour through Berlin that perfectly balanced education and culinary delight. Each food stop was thoughtfully selected to highlight an interesting aspect of the city's history or to showcase the diverse cultures that have shaped Berlin.
The food was delicious at every location. Jed maintained an excellent pace throughout, giving us time to savor both the flavors and the stories behind them.
The afternoon felt less like a standard tour and more like an informative, engaging conversation with friends.
Highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to experience Berlin through its food and fascinating history!

Global tastes of Berlin accompanied by informative discussions We thoroughly enjoyed our time on the walking tour which we took with friends during a week day afternoon. The directions to the meeting point were helpful, and Jed our guide was extremely considerate and well informed. The first stop where we enjoyed the chicken shawarma was a favorite. The Vietnamese tacos were equally tantalizingly. I appreciated the opportunity to experience the Syrian and Nepalese cuisines and their associated restaurants. The beer was good especially from Hops and Barley the local microbrewery. There was something for everyone in our group, and the fellow tourists were very nice. We have been on other food tours, and this one is at the top! Tip: Wear comfortable walking shoes. You can bring water as there are multiple restroom breaks.

Excellent food and history of Berlin This was so much fun! Jed gave us a really excellent history of Berlin/Germany and tips for places to go, accompanied with some great food and drinks. Some particular highlights were the mutabel and schnitzelbröt, but everything was delicious! They also had a vegan version of everything which was great for my twin. They could be more accommodating for nut allergies would be my only recommendation.

First class tour. Well worth it We went on this tour yesterday and it was fantastic. Clara our tour guide was a very knowledgeable lady who kept the whole tour involved with her depth of knowledge. We ate a variety of food from a wide range of cultures. During the tour Clara took time to explain how the culture started in Berlin and developed. We had probably 4 or 5 drinks and 5 or 6 dishes of food so no need for an evening meal ! Well done Clara this was a great tour.

Absolutely! There’s no better way to experience the beautiful city of Berlin and its culture than a food tour with a local guide.
What food is Berlin famous for?
There are so many delicious dishes, but two of the most iconic Berlin foods are currywurst and eisbein. Currywurst is an iconic treat made from pork sausage and curry powder. Eisbein—which translates to “ice leg”—is a traditional German dish that’s pickled ham hock that’s cured, boiled, then roasted. It’s typically served with Sauerkraut and potatoes.
What’s included in the price of the food tour?
All food and drinks, as well as your professional local guide are included in the price you pay for the tour. No hidden charges or upsells here.
How long are the tours?
Our Berlin tours range in length from 3 to 4 hours.
What neighborhoods or areas do the tours cover?
Each tour’s area can be found listed as its “location”. For example, you might explore the city center or Friedrichshain!
What is the group size?
Our tours have a maximum capacity of 12 guests. This ensures that our small groups are able to move unobtrusively through the neighborhoods we explore, respecting our surroundings and the locals that live in Athens.

We love welcoming solo travelers! All of our tours are open to individual guests.

What kind of food will we taste?
You will discover a variety of German and international flavors, experiencing Berlin’s dynamic culinary scene from classic sausages to modern street food. Offerings may vary by day or season, but you’re sure to enjoy a delightful array of local flavors!

Yes. All tours include drinks, and they’re always included in the price you pay.
Do the tours accommodate vegetarian or gluten-free diets?

Guests with severe or life-threatening allergies cannot participate in this activity for their safety.

What should I wear?
There is no dress code on our tours, however it’s recommended to wear a good pair of shoes (these are walking tours, after all!) and be prepared for the elements, even though most of our stops are indoors.
Are tourists welcome in Berlin?
Yes, absolutely! Berliners are proud of their city and are happy to share it with visitors who embrace its unique character. The warmest welcomes are found when visitors appreciate the rhythm of local life—whether that’s by supporting independent Spätis and local artists, being mindful of the city’s quiet hours (Ruhezeiten) in residential Kieze (neighbourhoods), or simply showing respect for the city’s poignant historical memorials.
That spirit of mindful travel is at the heart of what we do. Our small group food tours are designed to connect you with the real Berlin, introducing you to the local families behind our favourite vendors and sharing the stories that make the city so special.
Tour Experience & Expectations

Our guides are all fluent in English, and of course speak German as well. For requests for tours in other languages, please contact us.
Can I take photos during the tour?
Yes! You are welcome to take photos and videos of the food and scenery throughout your tour. If you would explicitly like to get photos of fellow guests or your guide, we kindly ask that you get their permission first.
Do I need to tip the guide?
Tips for our lovely guides are not required, but they are appreciated!
Will we visit the same places as other tours?
No. While some tours may have one or two stops which other groups visit (can’t help it if they’re popular!), Eating Europe are proud that the majority of stops on every Berlin tour are restaurants and vendors who work exclusively with us.
Do you offer private or custom tours?
We do! Please see the “Book a Private Tour” option or contact us, and we can arrange a private or custom Berlin tour to suit your specific needs.
