"Just had the loveliest time with Barbara today! We saw a wide array of food and got to know Athens from the viewpoint of a born and raised Athenian. Her knowledge about food and culture really gave us a great feel for the city as visitors who want to immerse ourselves. We also enjoyed the company of our fellow participants and had amazing food. Such a great vibe! "

Meeting Point

Monastiraki, Athens

We meet all travelers in front of Holy Church of the Virgin Mary Pantanassa. Your guide will be waiting for you and wearing our purple Eating Europe bag!

What Makes Monastiraki and Psiri Special

Monastiraki is where ancient Athens meets pure street energy. Its famous flea market sprawls around a buzzing square overlooked by the Acropolis, where souvlaki joints, spice shops, and roasted nut vendors compete for your attention. This is Athens at its most vibrant and unpretentious — grab a warm pita stuffed with juicy gyros, pull up a stool at a rooftop bar, and watch the city unfold beneath you.

Psiri, tucked just behind Monastiraki’s bustle, has a grittier, more creative soul. Once a neglected warehouse district, its narrow streets are now filled with mezedopoleía, craft cocktail bars, and live rembetiko music drifting from open doors. The food here has an edge — inventive small plates alongside old-school taverna classics, natural wines next to ice-cold ouzo, all served in a neighborhood that feels like Athens at its most authentic and unfiltered.

Meet Your Local Athens Tour Guides

Our Athens food tours are led by people who know this city through its tavernas, its markets, and its kitchen tables. Olive oil devotees, mezedes masters, and neighborhood regulars who learned to cook from their yiayiá and never stopped. They share Athens the way Greeks share everything — generously, with open arms and a full table, taking you into the neighborhoods where Athenians actually eat, argue, laugh, and linger long after the plates are empty.

Born and bred in Lesini, a small farming village, I had the opportunity to experience age-old customs and traditions, the beauties of rural Greece, and the authentic flavors of its countryside. A memory that led me to culinary school and afterwards to professional kitchens around the country.
One of my favorite bites is spinach pie with golden crispy handmade phyllo dough and tons of feta cheese.
Fifteen years ago, when I first moved to Athens, I started to explore it as if I was traveling. Now, as a licensed tour guide, it still is my favorite thing to do

I am THRILLED when I get to share authentic Greek flavours and some of my hometown’s hidden spots - not to mention personal and cultural bits and pieces of interesting facts!

I was born and raised in Athens and I've been showing around it for six years now, and let me tell you, I know all the best spots. From hole-in-the-wall joints to fancy restaurants, I've got the inside scoop. And I'm not just about the food—I love making friends from all over the world.
Souvlaki and Spanakopita
hether you're craving the best spanakopita or just need a local friend to hang out I've got your back. Let's explore Athens together and make some tasty memories!
Manolis
Manolis
Athenian born, traveler, foodie and friend of great wine. Half the days I eat at old school eateries where nothing changes in decades and the other half I search for the new best approaches to our typical dishes. Coming from an island of great cooks, I love comforting foods and especially tomatoes, herbs, mild spices and legumes.
My favorite dish is gemista (stuffed vegetables), especially at summer when the vegetables are ripe and flavorful. Pair it with a nice Greek Sauvignon Blanc and you are in paradise.
As soon as I started traveling I understood that food connects all humans, and 35 countries later I learnt to deeply appreciate Greek culinary tradition and it's uniqeness. Now I am happy to share it with the rest of the world.

Born and raised in Athens, from the moment I was old enough to explore my city with friends I never stopped! And of course food was always in the centre of these explorations! Even the simplest walk down town had a "taste" linked to it.
A good cheese-pie on the go while cruising the city streets always hits the spot
There is nothing more beautiful than experiencing a new place through its flavours and share this with good company, and we certainly aim to please!

That spirit of mindful travel is at the heart of what we do. Our small group food tours are designed to connect you with the real Athens, introducing you to the local families behind our favourite vendors and sharing the stories that make the city so special.

Do I need to tip the guide?

Tips for our lovely guides are not required, but they are appreciated!

Will we visit the same places as other tours?

No. While some tours may have one or two stops which other groups visit (can’t help it if they’re popular!), Eating Europe are proud that the majority of stops on every Athens tour are restaurants and vendors who work exclusively with us.

Do you offer private or custom tours?

We do! Please see the “Book a Private Tour” option or contact us, and we can arrange a private or custom Athens tour to suit your specific needs.
