Tour Description
Discover the Best of Budapest—Just for Your Group
Looking for a private Budapest food tour through the city’s most vibrant and historic neighborhoods? Our Private Budapest Food Tour: Beyond Goulash & Langos walks downtown Pest, Váci Street, and the iconic Jewish Quarter across 4 curated food stops, designed exclusively for your group. This is an immersive, fast-paced introduction to the rich Hungarian culinary scene, tracing the city’s history from 19th-century Golden Age promenades and the Cold War era of “goulash communism.”
Your private guide takes you from a stunning riverfront square by Pest’s oldest church through hidden passages, sampling legendary street food (hot, crispy, garlic-topped lángos), multi-generational comfort food (traditional smoked sausage with almapaprika, a cold Hungarian fruit soup, and rich beef goulash at a family-run eatery steeped in Hungarian tradition), and slow-simmered chicken paprikash at a contemporary kitchen. Along the way, you’ll pair these flavors with premium local drinks like Tokaj sparkling grape must or regional Hungarian wines. Depending on your tour time, your journey finishes on a sweet note with a crunchy Austro-Hungarian strudel at a charming avenue café (morning) or creative vegan cottage cheese dumplings in the heart of the Jewish Quarter (afternoon). Experience authentic Hungarian hospitality at your own pace, as you uncover the stories the guidebooks missed.

What Makes Pest Worth Walking
The inner city of Pest is where Budapest shows its hand. Starting from the riverfront at Március 15. tér, with the Buda hills across the water and the oldest church in Pest at your back, the tour moves through streets that have been central to the city’s story for centuries. Váci Street was where the elite of Pest promenaded in the 19th century and where the Eastern Bloc got its first McDonald’s in 1988. The city contains multitudes.
Further in, the Jewish Quarter operates on its own frequency. What was once a neglected part of the city is now one of its most layered: crumbling facades next to thriving bars, Gozsdu Court packed on weekends, murals covering the firewalls of Kazinczy Street, and ruin bars that turned abandonment into an aesthetic.
Morning tours take a detour along Andrássy Avenue, Budapest’s grand boulevard, past the Neo-Renaissance Opera House and 19th-century architecture that reminds you this city was once one of the great capitals of Europe. The strudel at the end of it is a good reason to linger.

At Eating Europe, we help you move beyond the typical tourist path. Across carefully selected local stops, we take you to places where Budapest’s food culture comes to life, introducing you to the flavors, people, and stories that make Hungarian cuisine so memorable.

Do I need to tip the guide?
Tips for our lovely guides are not required, but they are appreciated!
Will we visit the same places as other tours?
No. While some tours may have one or two stops which other groups visit (can’t help it if they’re popular!), Eating Europe are proud that the majority of stops on every Budapest tour are restaurants and vendors who work exclusively with us.
Do you offer private or custom tours?
We do! Please see the “Book a Private Tour” option or contact us, and we can arrange a private or custom Budapest tour to suit your specific needs.
