What Makes the Jewish Quarter, Old Town, and New Town Special
The Jewish Quarter, Josefov, carries centuries of history within just a few atmospheric blocks. Its ancient synagogues and storied cemetery sit alongside elegant art nouveau boulevards, creating a neighborhood of striking contrasts. Between the landmarks, you’ll find refined restaurants, traditional Jewish bakeries, and intimate cafés where the weight of history meets the warmth of a well-made coffee and a slice of medovník.
Old Town is Prague’s beating heart, where Gothic spires, astronomical clocks, and winding medieval lanes draw you deeper with every turn. But step off the main square and the real character emerges, tucked-away hospodas serving rich goulash and crispy bramboráky, old-world kavárnas with marble tables and tall windows, and cellar bars pouring excellent Czech beer in rooms that have hosted drinkers for centuries. Old Town rewards those who wander beyond the obvious.
New Town, despite its name, dates back to the 14th century and stretches from Wenceslas Square to the riverbank with a more local, lived-in energy. Its wide boulevards and hidden courtyards are home to bustling beer halls, modern bistros, and market stalls where Prague’s contemporary food scene thrives alongside tradition. From a proper tank pilsner at a neighbourhood pub to inventive Czech cooking in a converted passage, New Town is where everyday Prague sits down to eat.

An excellent food tour We loved this tour with Helena! The food was all great, with a good deal of diversity. We especially loved the marinated cheese and the strudel but there were no bad eats. Helena also provided a wealth of knowledge about the city's history and about the sites and food. She also provided recommendations for other places to eat during our stay. We were so full at the end of this tour and thoroughly enjoyed our time with Helena and the group. We highly recommend taking a few hours to do this tour.

Must do food tour! Fantastic tour with Petra. She was lovely and very welcoming. The tour made several stops and everything we tried was yummy. Petra peppered the tour with lots of history and interesting stories. This was my 5th tour with Eating Europe in different cities and I have yet to be disappointed. It's just a fun way to get to know a city and it's history through local cuisine with a group of like-minded travelers which is especially nice if traveling solo.

A Fun Way to Try New Food! I love food tours and have done several with Eating Europe and this one in Prague did not disappoint! Yesterday, my husband and I joined Zach for a tour and it was such a great experience from start to finish. Zach’s knowledge of history was impressive, and he kept our small group engaged the entire time. We asked plenty of questions and he answered every one with enthusiasm and detail. The food selections were delicious and felt truly authentic to the region. I highly recommend this tour with Zach—it’s a fantastic way to experience Prague through its food and history! This is the first of 4 Eating Europe tours I have booked over the next 2 weeks.

Wonderful Food Tour in Old Town We had such a wonderful time on our food tour this week with Helena! Our first stop was on the floating brewery where we enjoyed a beer and some fried/pickled cheese. Then we went to a restaurant that served us soup and another beer. Our tour had to skip the gingerbread store (I think because it was a Monday and the shop was closed on Mondays), but we were able to go to a shop that served open-faced sandwiches. Next we went across the street to enjoy typical Czech baked good kolaches! So yummy. We leisurely walked through Old Town and ended our tour at Cafe Louvre which was quite a special experience! I enjoyed the vegetable pancakes while everyone else on the tour enjoyed the meat with dumplings. Finishing off our meal was the most delicious apple strudel with whipped cream and vanilla custard. Absolutely heavenly! We enjoyed getting to know more of Old Town and enjoyed the Czech food. Highly recommend this tour!

Food tour and tour guide, Marketa, were great ! This was a very fun tour. Our tour guide, Marketa, took us to five different food places where we had delicious local specialties. It was a lot of food - so make sure you are hungry if you do this tour. Also when moving from place to place, Marketa provided a lot of information about Prague and the places we passed on the walk. She was interesting and funny.

Outside the tourist center – Grébovka is a lovely part of the city with some delightful wine and nice view.

Karlín is my happy place! It transformed from an ugly duckling into a vibrant swan of a neighborhood, boasting trendy eateries, intriguing architecture, public art, and beautiful green spaces. Check out Muj salek kavy & Kamin.

Frequently Asked Questions
General Tour Information
Is a food tour in Prague worth it?
Absolutely! There’s no better way to experience the beautiful city of Prague and its culture than a food tour with a local guide.
What food is Prague famous for?
Prague’s culinary scene is a hearty blend of Czech tradition and Central European comfort food. You can’t leave without trying svíčková (marinated beef sirloin in a creamy vegetable sauce with dumplings), goulash (rich, paprika-spiced beef stew), and řízek (Czech schnitzel, crispy and golden). Give trdelník (a sweet, chimney-shaped pastry rolled in sugar and nuts, originally from Hungary) a pass in favor of Kolaches (sweet, round pastry filled with poppyfeed or fruit) or bramboráky (savory potato pancakes). And of course, your visit wouldn’t be complete without pairing your meal with a glass of world-famous Czech beer, brewed fresh and full of flavor.
What’s included in the price of the food tour?
All food and drinks, as well as your professional local guide are included in the price you pay for the tour. No hidden charges or upsells here.
How long are the tours?
All of our Prague tours are approximately 4 hours in length.
What neighborhoods or areas do the tours cover?
Each tour’s area can be found listed as its “location”. For example, you might explore Mala Strana or the Old Town!
What is the group size?
Our tours have a maximum capacity of 12 guests. This ensures that our small groups are able to move unobtrusively through the neighborhoods we explore, respecting our surroundings and the locals that live in Prague.
I’m traveling alone. Do you offer single tickets?
We love welcoming solo travelers! All of our tours are open to individual guests.
Do children under 4 need a ticket for the tour?
Children under 4 years old do not need a ticket and can join the tour for free. However, food is not included for children under 3 and under. Paid tickets with food included are available for ages 4 and up.

What kind of food will we taste?
You will taste Czech and regional dishes, exploring Prague’s culinary culture through traditional fare and local specialties. Offerings may vary by day or season, but you’re sure to enjoy a delightful array of local flavors!
Are drinks included?

Please note that some of our tours involve areas with limited accessibility and are not wheelchair/stroller accessible. For assistance and alternative option, please contact us. We’re dedicated to providing a great experience for all our guests!
What should I wear?
There is no dress code on our tours, however it’s recommended to wear a good pair of shoes (these are walking tours, after all!) and be prepared for the elements, even though most of our stops are indoors.
Are tourists welcome in Prague?
Yes, absolutely. There’s a Czech word, pohoda, which captures a feeling of contentment, calm, and things being “just right.” That’s the feeling we believe every visitor should experience in Prague.
You’ll find that spirit of pohoda from locals when you connect with the city respectfully. It’s found when you support the traditional pubs away from the main square, help keep the cobblestone streets of Malá Strana quiet at night, and show respect for the city’s deep and complex history. This is the authentic Prague experience.
It’s this connection we create on our Eating Europe tours. We step away from the crowds and take you to the places locals truly love, introducing you to the people behind the food and the stories that make this city one of a kind.
Tour Experience & Expectations
Will the guide speak my language?
Our guides are all fluent in English, and of course speak Czech as well. For requests for tours in other languages, please contact us.
Can I take photos during the tour?
Yes! You are welcome to take photos and videos of the food and scenery throughout your tour. If you would explicitly like to get photos of fellow guests or your guide, we kindly ask that you get their permission first.
Do I need to tip the guide?
Tips for our lovely guides are not required, but they are appreciated!
Will we visit the same places as other tours?
No. While some tours may have one or two stops which other groups visit (can’t help it if they’re popular!), Eating Europe are proud that the majority of stops on every Prague tour are restaurants and vendors who work exclusively with us.
Do you offer private or custom tours?
We do! Please see the “Book a Private Tour” option or contact us, and we can arrange a private or custom Prague tour to suit your specific needs.
