No matter what corner of Italy I’ve found myself in, I’ve rarely struggled to get my hands on quality pizza, and Venice is no different. I’ve gushed about Venice’s wine bars and where I’ve uncovered the finest gelato in Venice, but I don’t think I’ve given the pizza here the recognition it deserves!

My Venice food tours are all about unearthing the diversity of the food scene in the City of Canals, and they’ve taught me that pizza is almost as sacred here as local favorites like risotto or cicchetti. Because of this, I’ve set out to find the best pizza in Venice, Italy, and I’ve listed my top choices below!

Top Pizzerias in Venice

Ai Garzoti

I came across Ai Garzoti in Santa Croce while visiting the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista nearby. Like anywhere in Italy, my expert tip for finding good pizza is to get a little out of the busy areas, which is exactly why this place caught my attention.

This warm, cozy spot centers around Venetian cuisine, which might explain why the pizza here is so underrated. It’d been a while since I’d tucked into some pizza, so I went for a classic and ordered a margherita.

At first, I wasn’t sure if I was hungry enough to finish it, but the thin, chewy dough was so light. Once I’d tried the acidic tomatoes and floral mozzarella, I couldn’t bear to leave a slice!

Ai Garzotio dei Garzoti, Fondamenta Rio Marin, 890, 30135 Venezia VE, Italy – Open every day from 12:00 am to 3:00 pm and from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm.

Da Mamo

It’s easy to assume somewhere this close to the Rialto Bridge would be a tourist trap, but Da Mamo in San Marco is far from it.

This proved to be the perfect lunch spot, as the relaxed, traditional dining area was a welcome relief from the busy laneways outside. Even though the menu was mostly filled with Venetian dishes, I couldn’t help but go for the diavola pizza.

When done right, there’s nothing as satisfying as diavola pizza, and Da Mamo knocked it out of the park. I loved every element, from the crispy dough and creamy mozzarella to the spicy and savory salami.

Da MamoCalle dei Stagneri o de la Fava, 5251, 30124 Venezia VE, Italy – Closed every Monday, open every Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Rossopomodoro

Chain restaurants can be a little hit or miss, but Rossopomodoro’s San Marco location is certainly the former!

It’s similar to many other restaurants near Piazza San Marco in that it combines modern and old-world features, but it also has a lovely, open-plan dining area. Their menu is packed with various Italian dishes, but I was most impressed with their Neapolitan pizzas.

I decided to go all-in on the Naples theme, choosing rich, peppery Neapolitan sausage and sharp friarielli for my toppings. The soft dough and smokey provola cheese toned down these strong, punchy flavors.

Al Profeta

Dorsoduro is always a reliable area for delicious, authentic food, so it makes sense that Al Profeta, near Leonardo da Vinci Museum, has some of the best pizzas in Venice, Italy.

The quaint, wood-beamed indoor area was full to the brim, but I was more than happy to sit outside on the stylish patio around the back. Amidst all the delightful Venetian dishes on the menu, I spotted a pizza teamed with eggplant, mushroom, and speck.

While the toppings were the highlight, I have to mention how delectable the crusty dough and zesty tomato sauce were. I particularly enjoyed the contrast between the deep, salty speck and the mild, earthy notes from the eggplant and mushrooms.

Al ProfetaC. Lunga S. Barnaba, 2671, 30123 Venezia VE, Italy – Open every day from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm and from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm.

Da Noi

Despite being situated close to the Arsenale di Venezia in Castello, Da Noi is among the lesser-known gems I’ve visited in the city.

This fabulous pizzeria has an understated, chilled-out vibe and a simplistic interior filled with wooden furnishings. They offer a lengthy selection of Venetian specialties and dishes from other Italian regions, and after some back and forth, I settled on their namesake pizza.

The Da Noi special came with creamy brie, fresh mozzarella, and herbaceous porchetta. I couldn’t fault a thing, but what really set this pizza apart was the use of sweet piennolo tomatoes from the Mount Vesuvius area, which brought a hint of tanginess and bitterness to each slice.

Da NoiCalle Crosera, 3911, 30122 Venezia VE, Italy – Open every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to Sunday from 12:00 pm to 10:30 pm and every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

1000 Gourmet

1000 Gourmet is among the finest pizza spots in San Marco, and it’s just a few minutes from Saint Mark’s Basilica.

I knew this Italian eatery was one of Venice’s most popular pizza restaurants, but I had a good feeling it would live up to the hype as soon as I stepped inside the bustling dining area. The menu features traditional and innovative recipes, and the burrata pizza piqued my interest.

Naturally, the mild, milky burrata was the focus, but the refreshing arugula, crunchy almonds, and delicate dough were all exquisite.

Very Good

Very Good is a canal-side eatery serving Italian fare close to the Three Arches Bridge in Cannaregio. They have some of the best pizza in Venice, Italy, here, and it’s even better than the name suggests!

I found one of the few empty seats in the lively terrace area and decided to satisfy my pizza craving with the tuna, mozzarella, and red onion-topped version.

It’s not the type of pizza I’d usually go for, but I wanted to mix things up a bit. Although it was risky, it definitely paid off. The airy dough was incredible, as were the helpings of grassy mozzarella, crisp onions, and buttery tuna.
