With the idyllic Bay of Naples and towering Mount Vesuvius as your backdrop, you can’t come to the city without enjoying a meal in some of Naples’ stunning waterfront restaurants. The Campania capital has one of Italy’s most beautiful seaside settings, which plenty of eateries showcase perfectly!

Seafront dining isn’t often at the top of the agenda for many people I meet on my Naples food tours, but I’m here to tell you why it should be. For starters, many of Naples’ waterfront restaurants serve superb Italian fare but also offer unbeatable vistas over the bustling marina, shimmering blue sea, and colorful historic buildings.

In this article, I’ve detailed the Naples waterfront restaurants you have to check out on your next trip to southern Italy!

La Cantinella

La Cantinella is a fabulous waterfront restaurant in Santa Lucia

The decor here is super unique, and the bamboo walls make it look like an Italian-style tiki bar! I was coming for both the food and the Mount Vesuvius views, so I made sure to book a table outside.

Seafood is the main focus of the menu, so I decided to try the seabass. Mild in flavor and flaky in texture, this was some of the tastiest fish I’d tried in some time, and the crispy, salted potatoes and touch of earthy saffron were the perfect finishing touches.

La Cantinella (€€€) – Via Cuma, Via Nazario Sauro, 42, 80132 Napoli NA, Italy – Open every Monday to Saturday from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm and from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm and every Sunday from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

Caruso Roof Garden

I’m not often left speechless, but I was when I saw the views of Mount Vesuvius from Caruso Roof Garden in Santa Lucia.

Between the unspoiled vistas, refined neutral furnishings, and soft lighting, this is surely one of the most romantic spots in the city. The menu consists of Italian dishes with an emphasis on Neapolitan flavors.

I went for the gnocchi, which came with zingy lemon, tangy capers, and a generous serving of rich, tender sea urchin. These bright and bold flavors livened up the decadent, pillow-like gnocchi.

Caruso Roof Garden (€€€€) – Grand Hotel Vesuvio, Via Partenope, 45, 80121 Napoli NA, Italy – Open every Monday to Friday from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm and every Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm.

Palazzo Petrucci

If the seafront views aren’t enough to lure you to Palazzo Petrucci in Posillipo, the Michelin Guide-worthy food and elegant decor certainly will.

The full-length windows mean that indoor diners can enjoy the scenery. However, if you’re like me and want undisturbed vistas, request a window spot when making your booking.

At Palazzo Petrucci, it’s all about showcasing Neapolitan flavors, fresh seafood, and innovative recipes. I tried a handful of dishes, but I was particularly taken with the smooth paccheri pasta, which was smothered in a beefy Neapolitan sauce and crumbly, milky cacioricotta.

Palazzo Petrucci (€€€€) – Via Posillipo, 16 C, 80123 Napoli NA, Italy – Open every Monday to Thursday from 7:00 pm to 10:30 pm and every Friday to Sunday from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 10:30 pm.

‘A Fenestella

I came to ‘A Fenestella in Posillipo for a quick lunch when I was in the area, but I’m already planning to come back for an evening meal. If the daytime views are anything to go by, I’m willing to bet the sunset here is incredible.

It’s a little fancy, yet the crisp white furnishings and matching outdoor area keep it feeling casual and relaxed.

Like many waterfront restaurants in Naples, Italy, seafood plays a starring role. On this occasion, the Sardinian-style lobster jumped out at me. As I expected, the lobster was perfectly sweet and succulent, but the sharp red onion and juicy tomatoes made the dish so light and fragrant.

‘A Fenestella (€€€) – Calata Ponticello a Marechiaro, 27/a, 80123 Napoli NA, Italy – Open every Monday and Wednesday to Sunday from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 12:00 am, closed every Tuesday.

Transatlantico Ristorante Suite

The last time I stayed in the Santa Lucia area, Transatlantico Ristorante Suite was where I enjoyed one of my favorite meals of my entire trip.

It’s tucked right along the lively marina, and this is part of the reason why I initially chose to visit. Many of Naples’ waterfront restaurants are calm and quiet, but this gorgeous spot offers great views along with a vibrant atmosphere, something that’s not always easy to find!

Oceanic fare is what the team here does best, and I appreciated the mix of regional cuisines on offer. I was famished when I arrived, so the seafood risotto was just what I was craving. This dish was exceptional in every way, from the creamy, delicate rice to the meaty prawns and fresh, salty clams.

Transatlantico Ristorante Suite (€€€) – Via Luculliana, 15, 80132 Napoli NA, Italy – Open every Monday and Wednesday to Sunday from 12:00 pm to 3:15 pm and from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm, closed every Tuesday.

Tips for Dining on the Naples Waterfront

  • If you’re planning a sundown dinner, keep in mind that sunset times vary a lot in Naples depending on the time of year. For example, during the summer, the sun won’t go down until after 8:00 pm.
  • When making your reservation, which I advise doing, specify whether you want an indoor or outdoor table.
  • For the complete experience, opt for seasonal dishes, which include favorites like caprese salads in summer or ragù Napoletano in winter.
  • Waterside rooftop spots may only open during the warmer months of the year.

Conclusion

Naples’ waterfront restaurants take dinner with a view to a whole new level. While many cities in Italy boast either vistas over the sea or the city, in Naples, you’ll get both!
