Seville’s nightlife scene might not be as renowned as that in larger Spanish cities like Barcelona or Madrid, but Andalusia’s charming capital is home to some fantastic bars. Many of the best bars in Seville are stylish cocktail lounges or craft beer hubs, yet the city’s traditional taverns (which are not unlike many of the spots I include in my Spain food tours) remain as vibrant and alluring as ever.

The Seville Bar Experience: What to Expect

Hopping between bars is somewhat of a ritual in Seville, meaning you can easily enjoy both the contemporary and old-school sides of the nightlife scene. In this guide, I’ll run you through the best bars in Seville, including venues for every kind of visitor.

Tapas Bars and Foodie Spots to Pair with Drinks

A bustling tapas bar is the perfect place to kickstart any evening in Seville, and it’s where the city’s culinary and nightlife scenes meet. While you’re here, sample some vermouth or beer alongside cured meats, cheese, tortillas, or olives

Some tapas bars I highly recommend include Bar Alfalfa, a rustic joint for incredible tapas and drinks with an energetic energy. Another place I love is El Librero Tapas Y Quesos, a Mediterranean eatery celebrated for its orange wine and extensive cheese selection.

Cocktail Bars in Seville: Creative and Classic Serves

Beer and wine might be alcoholic drinks of choice for many Spaniards, but Seville also has some sublime cocktail bars that are ideal when you’re craving something different. Some are upmarket and sophisticated, while others are more low-key, meaning you’ll have your pick of venues.

Montana Cocktail Bar is one of my favorites, as it has a well-thought-out menu of unique Seville-inspired drinks and classic cocktails with a twist. It’s a chic and stylish spot with regular DJ sets and a team of talented mixologists. Chaman Cocktail Bar is a little more relaxed, and you’ll even get some complimentary popcorn to enjoy with your drink.

Craft Beer and Pub Culture in Seville

If the craft beer and classic pub scene is more your thing, you won’t be short of places to go in Seville. These spots tend to be quite diverse, so expect to find a mix of dive bars, sports pubs, and beer halls specializing in craft varieties.

El Tremendo is one spot you can’t miss. You could easily walk past this bar and assume it’s a grocery store, but it’s actually a tiny pub with well-priced draught beer and delicious mojama, a popular salt-cured tuna dish. Another must-visit for beer lovers is the trendy Cervecería Hops & Dreams, which is one of the best bars in Seville for craft brews.

Rooftop and Terrace Bars with a View

Seville is home to some stellar rooftop bars. Some boast terraces overlooking the city center or Guadalquivir River that are amazing at sunset, while others offer a livelier atmosphere if you’re looking for a party vibe. Whichever you choose, it’s essential to note that some rooftops charge an entry fee or require a minimum spend.

Pura Vida Terraza is a fantastic option for something more casual. It has stunning views of the Seville Cathedral, refreshing cocktails, and fabulous sharing plates. For a later night, I suggest paying a visit to Alameda 47, which is essentially a rooftop club!

Specialty Spirit Bars: Sherry, Whisky, and More

Some of the best bars in Seville are those that specialize in specific drinks. You can typically find quality whisky, sherry, gin, and other spirits in dozens of bars in the city, but venturing to specialty spots is always a good call if you have an affinity for particular spirits.

As the name suggests, Premier Cocktail and Whisky House is a must for whisky drinkers, as this sleek haunt has a lengthy menu of whisky varieties. Gin fans will love The Gintonería, which I think has the finest gin and tonics in the city, while the adorable Vinoteca Lama La Uva is the go-to place to try sherry.

Bar Etiquette and Local Customs

I’ve included some tips about local customs and etiquette to ensure you know what to expect when you hit the bars in Seville.

  • Unless it’s a formal, sit-down bar, it’s best to assume you’ll need to go to the counter to place your order.
  • There’s no expectation for patrons to tip bartenders, but you may wish to round up your total if you’ve enjoyed the service.
  • Many Sevillanos move from bar to bar throughout the evening, so don’t be afraid to try a new spot after every one or two drinks.
  • Opening times can vary, so be sure to ask locals for the most up-to-date information.

Bars for Every Kind of Traveler

When it comes to bars in Seville, you’ll quickly find there’s something for everyone.

  • Solo travelers: If you’re traveling alone and keen to make some local connections, opt for spots with ample seating at the bar.
  • Couples: Cozy, candlelit wine bars or upscale rooftop bars are ideal for couples seeking a more intimate atmosphere.
  • Groups: Casual beer halls and tapas bars are great for both large and small groups.

Tip for Travelers

  • Get an overview of Seville’s bar scene and visit at least three types of establishments during your stay.
  • Start your night with a relaxed drink, such as vermouth or Seville orange wine, and snacks at a tapas bar.
  • Weather permitting, continue to a rooftop terrace for sunset and take in the views with a handcrafted cocktail.
  • After dark, head to a lively local spot before finishing your night in a quiet bar for a nightcap.
  • Stick to venues frequented by residents rather than tourist-centric bars.

Final Thoughts: Why Seville’s Bars Are the City’s Soul

There are few better ways to mingle with locals in Seville than in the city’s buzzing bars. Whether you’re sipping on regional wines with tasty tapas plates or chatting in a compact, all-standing joint, you’ll be assured of a great night out in any of the best bars in Seville.
