Wine is unquestionably one of Italy’s most sought-after exports, and in recent years, natural alternatives have seen a surge in popularity, particularly in larger cities. One such city is Naples. Already revered for its wine and culinary offerings, as you may know from my Naples food tour, it now boasts a substantial lineup of spots for organic wines.

As more people began opting for varieties with fewer preservatives, sustainably sourced grapes, and lower alcohol content, the wine culture in Naples has been gradually shifting. These days, it’s easier than ever to find natural wine in Naples, Italy, and I’ve listed all of the best places to visit below!

The Natural Wine Scene in Naples

Although natural wines in Naples, Italy, are a relatively new addition to the city’s stellar wine scene, this movement has been around for decades. However, the increased demand for minimal intervention styles has been especially evident in the last few years.

Naples has always been a place where local, unprocessed ingredients reign supreme. As such, it’s little wonder that some Neapolitans are now veering toward wines made from simple production methods without the use of pesticides and additives. If the last few years are anything to go by, this trend seems set to continue.

Best Wine Bars to Drink Natural Wines in Naples

Gluu

Gluu was among the first natural wine bars I visited in Naples, and this quaint haunt was where I got a taste for orange wine. I had no idea what to expect, but I went with the owner’s recommendation and soon found myself ordering a second glass of this tart, honey-like wine.

Gluu – 80134 Napoli – Open every Monday and Friday to Sunday from 6:00 pm to 12:00 am, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 pm to 12:00 am, closed every Tuesday.

OAK Napoli

OAK Napoli is a lot livelier than your typical wine bar, with the rotating selection of natural wines and craft beers drawing in crowds most evenings. I fancied a glass of rosé, and so the rovinose was an easy choice. It had fruity, herbal notes and a uniquely sour undertone that made it feel so refreshing.

OAK Napoli – 80134 Napoli – Open every Monday to Thursday and Sunday from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm and every Friday and Saturday from 3:00 pm to 12:00 am.

Indovino

I wish I’d stumbled upon Indovino sooner, as it’s quickly become one of my favorite spots for natural wine in Naples, Italy. All of the food and wines I’ve tried here were superb, but I was particularly fond of the grassy Benepop sparkling white and the spicy salami selection.

Indovino – 80134 Napoli – Closed every Monday, open Tuesday to Thursday from 6:00 pm to 12:30 am, Friday and Saturday from 6:00 pm to 1:30 am, and every Sunday from 6:00 pm to 12:00 am.

WineCafè Da Mario

Sitting under the sun along the cobblestone street outside the cozy WineCafè Da Mario is something I can’t wait to do again next time I’m in Naples. The last time I was here, I spent my afternoon snacking on zesty bruschetta while sipping a musky, slightly earthy aglianico.

WineCafè Da Mario – 80138 Napoli – Open every Monday to Thursday from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 am to 10:30 pm, closed every Sunday.

If you want to enjoy natural wine in Naples, Italy, with local and seasonal food pairings, JUS is the place to be. This sleek, ambient wine bar has a lengthy list of natural wines, and I went for a greco bianco, which balanced soft, mineral notes with zingy apple flavors. On the server’s advice, I teamed this with the grilled seabass, which was gently sweet and flaky.

My personal favorites were the oh-so-tender veal carpaccio and the elegant barbera with its deep berry hues and silky-smooth mouthfeel.
